The Mammy Monologues
Exciting news indeed from me as I embark on my first major non-fiction work (outside of the journalism day job) alongside fellow journalist Anne Marie Scanlon.
We have launched The Mammy Monologues - which is not just another book/ project about having babies but a look at all aspects of motherhood.
Our aim is to allow "real" women to tell their stories - be it in three line snippets or longer monologues.
The project will not only, hopefully, make other mothers feel less alone, inspired and uplifted but also has two distinct goals.
We want to validate and celebrate the role of mothers.
AND
We want the project to be recognised as a valid marker of social history.
Both Anne-Marie and I are ridiculously (as in using too many exclamation marks all the time) excited about the project - and this is only the beginning.
We launched the research portion of the project just ten days ago (early July). Already we have 900 followers on Facebook and the posts have been by in excess of 4000 people. AND - a number of publishers are interested.
But to make it work - we need you. We need mothers with all varieties of experiences - everyone's story is valid.
We need you to contact us via email ( mammymonologues@gmail.com)
on Facebook - www.facebook.com/mammymonologues
On Twitter - @mammymonologues
and at our website www.mammymonologues.com
Anonymity can be offered if requested - and our goal is not to twist words or dramatise stories but to tell it like it is, was and may be.
